A Grade 9 student identified only as “Jonathan” was assaulted by four men near Barangay 520 hall in Sampaloc, Manila, in an incident reportedly fueled by jealousy. The attack occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to a report by Jhomer Apresto on GMA News Unang Balita.

CCTV footage shows Jonathan walking alone in front of the barangay hall when two men suddenly ran toward him and began punching him until he fell to the ground. The assault continued even after the victim had collapsed, while several female students tried to intervene.
Barangay officials said a woman wearing a red t-shirt, allegedly an accomplice, stopped briefly near the scene and picked up an object that fell during the attack.

We were told they intended to seriously harm him, but the barangay captain was able to intervene,” said Kagawad Yolanda Correa of Barangay 520.
Authorities said the motive stemmed from jealousy over a romantic misunderstanding.
“The girl no longer wanted him, and he was threatened by the friends who were jealous,” Correa explained.
The victim is now hospitalized with multiple injuries. Police have arrested three of the four suspects, including two adults and a minor, who were voluntarily brought in by their parents.
The minor may be placed under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s act of discernment. One attacker, who kicked Jonathan in the face, remains at large.
The Sampaloc Police Station is filing charges against the suspects, while GMA Integrated News continues to seek statements from those involved. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation progresses.
