In response to the high-profile nature of the crime, the local police have organized a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG).

This dedicated team is currently reviewing additional forensic evidence and interviewing potential witnesses to identify the gunman and uncover the motive behind the targeted assault.

The CAAP leadership expressed profound grief and alarm over the "senseless act of violence" against one of their key regional officials.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time," the CAAP statement read.

The agency highlighted Joanna’s dedication to her role as acting manager, a position of significant responsibility in maintaining one of the country's major gateways.

Upon identification, the owner asserted that the incident was unintentional, claiming they were unaware the animal was still secured to the vehicle during the trip. A formal health check conducted by the Cagayan de Oro City Animal Welfare Society confirmed the dog sustained only minor abrasions and is otherwise in good condition. While the pet was ultimately released back to the family, authorities issued a stern warning regarding the legal consequences of negligence under the Animal Welfare Act.

Still in other news, PHIVOLCS reported a sudden moderately explosive eruption at Kanlaon Volcano’s summit crater on the afternoon of Thursday, February 19. The event generated a massive ash column that ascended 2,000 meters into the air, with winds carrying the volcanic debris toward the southwestern regions. Monitoring teams observed pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) descending roughly one kilometer down the volcano's southern and southwestern flanks. Experts remain on high alert as they track ongoing volcanic tremors and gas emissions to determine if an escalation in the current alert level is necessary.
