Grade 10 student fatally stabbed by schoolmate after standing up for girlfriend in Manila

A 15-year-old Grade 10 student was killed after being stabbed by a 16-year-old fellow student in Barangay 649, Baseco Compound, Manila, on Monday evening, February 9. The tragic incident shocked neighbors and students in the area.

CCTV footage taken behind a school around 7:00 p.m. showed the suspect apparently waiting along the road for the victim to come out. Moments later, the victim arrived with a group of friends before the two rushed toward each other and exchanged punches. A separate cellphone video later revealed the suspect holding a knife during the fight. The victim was seen clutching his stomach, walking away with friends, and eventually collapsing due to weakness. Bystanders immediately called for help as the scene turned chaotic.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but later died from multiple stab wounds in different parts of his body.

According to his mother, Rhoda Ricabar. “Ang sabi dahil dun sa girlfriend sa pagtanggol kasi binastos daw po yung girlfriend… nakita ng anak ko na yung inamba siyang susuntukin tapos nakita ng anak ko… syempre bilang boyfriend nabastusan siya.”

The victim’s 14-year-old girlfriend also confirmed the earlier altercation. “Parang inambahan po ako ng sipa (ng suspek) dalawang beses kaya lumapit po siya (biktima).”

Meanwhile, the suspect’s mother insisted it was merely a misunderstanding among friends. “Nagbibiruan daw po sila eh kaso nga ang dating dun sa lalaki binabastos daw yung girlfriend niya… pero hindi po barkada po kasi nila yun kaya andun yung biru biruan.”

Police recovered the knife from a trash bin near the suspect’s home after he fled. Barangay officials said youth-related fights are not new in the area, often erupting unexpectedly, and patrols will be intensified. The minor suspect is now under the custody of the Manila Police District while authorities continue their investigation.

In another story, a man was injured after being robbed and shot shortly before midnight in General Trias, Cavite. The victim first believed the encounter was merely a prank and did not immediately realize it was a holdup. The assailants fled with his wallet, mobile phone, identification cards, and motorcycle. Authorities are now examining CCTV footage to help identify the three suspects involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, a man was killed in Bayawan, Negros Oriental after being run over and stabbed by his neighbor. Police said the two had argued the day before, during which the victim allegedly threatened the suspect. The victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while barangay personnel arrested the suspect. Authorities are preparing murder charges and are gathering statements from the victim’s family.
