The incident, which occurred around 11:00 PM on February 1, 2026, sparked a high-speed police pursuit through one of the city's major thoroughfares.
The primary target of the attack was identified as a 28-year-old motorcycle rider. According to police reports, the victim was traveling along Villareal Street when two assailants on a separate motorcycle intercepted him and opened fire.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds.

The tragedy was compounded by the death of a 24-year-old bystander. The second victim, a second-year criminology student, was simply cycling through the area when the chaos erupted.
Authorities confirmed that he was hit in the left leg by a stray bullet. While the injury initially appeared non-fatal, the severity of the blood loss proved too much, and he later succumbed to the wound.
CCTV footage captured by local barangay cameras showed Quezon City Police District (QCPD) units engaging in a frantic chase with the suspects shortly after the shooting.
The pursuit stretched along Quirino Highway, but the gunmen managed to evade the officers under the cover of darkness.
Crime scene investigators recovered 11 spent shell casings from Villareal Street, suggesting a high volume of fire in a residential area.
While the motive behind the targeting of the 28-year-old rider remains unclear, investigators are currently looking into the victim's background to determine if the hit was gang-related or sparked by a personal vendetta.
The death of the criminology student has sparked outrage among local residents, highlighting the dangers of gun violence in urban neighborhoods.
Family members of the student described him as a dedicated youth who dreamed of joining the police force—the very institution now tasked with finding his killers.
The QCPD has launched a massive hot-pursuit operation and is reviewing additional surveillance footage from establishments along Quirino Highway to identify the license plate of the suspects' getaway vehicle.
As of Monday morning, no arrests have been made, and the perpetrators remain at large.
In other news, a primary suspect in the brutal slaying of PSMS Diane Marie Mollenido and her young son has surrendered to the QCPD, providing a detailed account of the crime. The informant, Gil Valdemoro Dy Jr., alleged that the fatal encounter took place at a residence in Novaliches before the victims' bodies were transported to separate provinces. In his testimony, Dy implicated a female car agent and a dismissed police officer as the masterminds, leading to their subsequent inquest for robbery with h0micide. Authorities have also taken the slain policewoman’s husband, John Mollenido, into custody as a person of interest to determine his potential involvement or prior knowledge.
Still in other news, four family members, including three minors, lost their lives in a violent ambush while walking home in Barangay New Abra last Thursday night. The victims were reportedly returning from a neighbor's house after seeking a Wi-Fi connection when unidentified gunmen launched a sudden and lethal attack. A 14-year-old boy remains in critical condition at a local hospital, being the only member of the group to survive the shooting despite sustaining life-threatening injuries. Matalam police have launched an intensive manhunt for the assailants, with investigators currently exploring local grudges or "rido" as possible motives for the massacre.
