The victim, a private employee identified only by his alias “John Paul,” was a resident of Purok 4, Barangay Manubuan. According to police reports, the young man succumbed to approximately 18 stab wounds to his chest and various parts of his body.

The Matalam Municipal Police Station reported that the incident occurred at around 7:55 PM in Purok Morning Glory. The investigation, led by Police Lieutenant Bonel Cabuyao, revealed that the victim and the suspect—a construction worker—happened to be at the same store at the same time. Both individuals were reportedly under the influence of alcohol during the encounter.
Authorities noted that the two did not know each other and had no prior history of conflict. However, a seemingly harmless interaction quickly escalated. Despite the quick response from the Matalam PNP and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The suspect eventually turned himself in to the police and is currently being held as he faces a murder charge.
