A motorcycle rider was killed after a collision with a sport utility vehicle in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, an incident that was captured on closed-circuit television footage, authorities confirmed.

According to a report by CJ Torida on GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, CCTV footage showed the motorcycle crossing into the lane of the oncoming SUV moments before the crash occurred.

The impact caused the rider to be thrown from the motorcycle.

The rider sustained severe head injuries, which ultimately led to his death despite the response of authorities.

Police said initial findings indicate that the victim had allegedly come from a drinking session prior to the accident, a factor now being considered in the ongoing investigation.

The driver of the SUV later surrendered to the police. As of this writing, authorities said the driver has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, police noted that they are still attempting to obtain statements from the victim’s relatives to help complete the investigation.

In a separate road incident reported in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, a truck carrying cement crashed into a tree in Barangay Lungog earlier in the day.

Authorities said the truck driver lost control of the steering wheel while navigating a curved portion of the road.

Despite significant damage to the front of the truck, the driver survived the crash and did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

Authorities are continuing to assess the circumstances surrounding both incidents as they remind motorists to exercise caution, especially on curved roads and after consuming alcohol.

Law enforcement officials have identified two individuals as persons of interest, both of whom were reportedly involved in recent verbal altercations with the victim. One person of interest was a recent drinking associate, while a fellow security officer—who had a known rivalry with the deceased—has been tested for gunpowder residue.
