According to Police Captain Marlon Perez, chief of the Janiuay MPS, the uncle and his nephew, Alias Remrem, had been drinking together earlier that afternoon at a relative’s house. After the session, the uncle went home to his sibling’s house and lay down on a bamboo bench to rest. However, his nephew followed him and suddenly hacked him multiple times using a bolo.

What makes the story talk of the town is the claim from local residents. According to the police chief, people in the area believe the victim possesses an anting-anting or amulet. They claimed that the nephew had tried to hack his uncle three times before, but the blade supposedly failed to wound him. Unfortunately, during this fourth encounter, the "protection" allegedly failed as the victim sustained a deep hack wound on his face.

“Nagakatabo ang nasambit nga krimen sa tion nga yara sa impluwensya sang makahulubog nga ilimnon ang magtiyo,” Captain Perez stated, highlighting how alcohol played a role in the violence.

The suspect fled the scene immediately and is now the subject of an ongoing hot-pursuit operation. Meanwhile, the uncle is being treated at a local hospital. Authorities are currently waiting for the victim to recover enough to decide whether he will pursue formal criminal charges against his own nephew.

The mysterious element of the "anting-anting" has added a layer of local folklore to this otherwise grim criminal case. In many rural provinces, the belief in supernatural protection during violent encounters remains a significant part of the culture.

A previous report also featured a man who allegedly went "amok" but was reportedly not hit by bullets during a police encounter. Witnesses at the time claimed his anting-anting made him invulnerable, leading to a tense standoff before he was finally apprehended. The story gained massive attention as people debated the reality of such spiritual charms in modern times.

In a more chilling news update, several graves were discovered desecrated in a local cemetery where suspects reportedly stole the knee bones of the deceased. Authorities learned that these bones are often used as ingredients for making agimat or amulets, which are sold to people who believe they can be protected from physical harm. The incident led to a stricter monitoring of cemeteries and a call for respect for the dead.
