The Special Investigation Task Group Nodero said the 59-year-old suspect was freed after the City Prosecutor’s Office ruled that the evidence presented was insufficient to warrant continued detention. Prosecutors directed police to submit additional proof, noting that the statements of two witnesses were not enough to sustain the case.

The witnesses earlier claimed they saw bloodstains on the suspect’s clothes on the day of the crime and observed him sharpening a machete the night before the incident.

Talagang tinitingnan naming lahat ng anggulo,” he adds.

Yupio explained that the prosecutor’s release order cited the failure to observe the 36-hour hot pursuit period during the suspect’s arrest. Despite this, he stressed that the victim’s uncle remains the prime suspect and that the murder case is still active.

The Public Attorney’s Office has stepped in to support the victim’s family. PAO Chief Persida Rueda-Acosta ordered lawyers to coordinate closely with police.
