Viral classroom video in Antique shows Grade 6 student in pain

A disturbing video that has circulated online has sparked deep concern among parents and educators in Bugasong, Antique. The footage, captured on January 7, 2026, shows a Grade 6 student, identified only as alias "Manny," seemingly choking his 11-year-old classmate, alias "Jay-ar." While other students eventually tried to step in, the video shows Jay-ar already on the floor, grimacing in intense pain.

The incident reportedly began as typical "child’s play" between the two boys. However, the situation escalated when a third classmate allegedly kicked Manny. Angered by the kick, Manny reportedly turned his frustration toward Jay-ar. According to Jay-ar’s mother, alias "Ann," the attack was relentless even when her son was clearly injured. “Sinakal niya pa habang nakalaylay na yung kamay ng anak ko na nagmamakaawa sa kanya na pakawalan na niya,” she shared during an interview.

As of this writing, Jay-ar is confined at a hospital in San Jose, Antique, where he is scheduled for an operation. Doctors confirmed that he suffered a fracture and a dislocated left elbow. Ann, who works in Manila, admitted that her son had mentioned being hurt by Manny before, but she initially dismissed it. “Sinuntok niya ang anak ko. Pero pinabayaan na nga lang namin kasi syempre, away-bata iyan,” she added.

At the time of the incident, the classroom was unsupervised as the teacher was reportedly attending a dance rehearsal for a school activity. This lapse has prompted the Schools Division Office-Antique (SDO-Antique) to order a full report from the school principal and district supervisor. Dr. Ernesto Servillon Jr., the Schools Division Superintendent, emphasized the need for healing, stating that they must “Conduct or administer a psychological first aid sa bata, sa mga bata, hindi lang ang biktima kundi ang iba pang mga bata na involved.”

The local police have also stepped in to address the climate of the school. Captain Alfonso Precia, the officer in charge of the Bugasong Municipal Police Station, shared that they are actively educating the students. “Nagka-conduct lang tayo ng lecture sa Grade 6 pupils sa section na iyon. Nag-lecture sila sa anti-bullying,” he said. While the parents of both boys are set to meet for a dialogue, the school has already started providing financial aid and psychological intervention to the victim.
