According to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Son was found unconscious and without a pulse near the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 5, situated close to the Quirino Grandstand. Despite the quick response of medical teams stationed for the event, he was declared dead at the scene. Initial assessments suggest that the veteran journalist suffered a fatal heart attack while documenting the massive crowd of devotees.

The loss has sent waves of grief through the journalism community. His colleagues shared that Son had not been feeling well in the days leading up to the grand procession. He had reportedly been experiencing flu-like symptoms but chose to push through with his assignment. His passion for the craft was evident as he covered the preliminary activities of the feast, including the traditional "Pahalik," despite his physical condition.

Authorities continue to monitor the safety of the millions of devotees still participating in the procession. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the risks faced by frontliners—including media workers—who document the nation's most significant cultural and religious events. As the "Black Nazarene" slowly makes its way back to Quiapo Church, the media community pauses to honor a colleague who died doing what he loved most.

While this year’s feast is clouded by tragedy, many public figures have long been associated with the deep devotion shown during the Traslacion.

Action star Coco Martin is a known devotee of the Black Nazarene, often spotted joining the sea of devotees during the annual procession. In 2023, he participated in the event not just as a believer but also as a professional, as it marked the first taping day for his hit series Batang Quiapo. His presence among the crowd has always been a point of interest for fans who admire his humility and faith.

Comedienne Kiray Celis recently shared her experience participating in the Traslacion together with her partner. The actress revealed that her devotion is deeply personal, and this year, she offered a special prayer for a child. Kiray’s journey through the crowded streets of Manila highlights how the feast touches the lives of various celebrities who seek spiritual guidance and blessings.
