The incident happened at around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Barangay Puntod.

According to a report by Cyril Chaves of GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, the fire quickly engulfed the home of Jake Binondo.

Despite the danger, he chose to go back inside to look for his five pet dogs, whom he could not bear to leave behind.

He was able to bring two of the dogs out safely, but he failed to save the remaining three.

Binondo suffered burns on his face and hands while trying to rescue his pets, but he said he did not mind the injuries.

“Unfortunately, I was only able to save two. Three of our dogs died. The two who survived were freely moving around the living room and were sleeping beside us,” he said.

Binondo also shared that the dogs who died were all female and, according to him, they tend to hide whenever they feel fear or panic, which made it difficult for him to find them inside the burning house.

He also appealed for financial assistance to help cover the immediate medical needs of the two surviving dogs.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire reached third alarm status, affected four houses, and was put out at around 11:00 p.m.
