According to Mae Jean Abamonga, the victim's cousin, the relationship between Anelis and the suspect was far from peaceful. Mae Jean confirmed that the two often fought, which eventually led Anelis to decide to end the relationship. She was reportedly determined to start over and leave the suspect for good.

However, the start of the New Year allegedly brought a violent confrontation. On January 1, the two reportedly had another heated argument. Mae Jean mentioned that the suspect was allegedly drunk at the time. Despite the tension, Anelis was still focused on her freedom. At around noon that same day, she sent a message to Mae Jean, asking if her cousin could accompany her to look for a new apartment to move into.

Tragically, that was one of the last times anyone heard from her. Instead of moving into a new home, her body was later discovered inside a plastic storage box dumped in a river. The discovery has left her family in Camiguin and her friends in Camarines Norte devastated, as it appears she was killed just as she was trying to escape her situation.

The police are currently looking into the suspect’s whereabouts. The history of domestic disputes and the timing of their final fight provide a strong lead for the authorities. This case serves as a grim reminder of the dangers many women face when trying to leave abusive environments.

Before the suspect was identified, the community was already on edge following the initial discovery of the body. A tricycle driver had previously come forward to give his statement to the police, providing details about the potential origin of the plastic box and the movements of a vehicle in the area. His testimony was one of the first pieces of the puzzle that helped investigators narrow down the timeline of the crime.

The identification of Anelis was made possible thanks to the power of the internet and the vigilance of her friends. A close acquaintance of the victim saw the news on social media and immediately recognized the storage box and the description provided by the Basud police. This led to a quick verification by her family members, who had been worried after she failed to contact them after New Year's Day.
