Police said the father suffered burns and wounds to his body, while his child, who was riding behind him, was also injured.

Both were immediately brought to the hospital for medical treatment. Aside from their injuries, parts of their motorcycle were burned due to the blast.

A window of a nearby house was also reportedly shattered as a result of the explosion.

The father and son had traveled from San Carlos to Sta. Barbara to buy fireworks, with the father driving the motorcycle.

Authorities believe the fireworks were being carried in an unsafe manner during the trip.

“According doon sa tatay, ipinahawak daw yung paputok na binili nila which is kuwitis po yata dito sa anak. Sumayad na yung hawak niya na paputok doon sa kalsada or dito sa may tambutso ng kanilang motor kaya siguro ‘yon ang naging sanhi nagkaroon ng friction, pumutok yung kuwitis,” says Police Lieutenant Colonel Michael Datuin, chief of the Sta. Barbara Police Station.

Some residents reportedly saw the father’s clothes on fire after the explosion, prompting them to rush over and douse him with water to stop the flames.

Authorities are still trying to get a statement from the victims as the investigation continues.

In an earlier KAMI report, the Bureau of Customs was reported to be conducting a more detailed review of the importation of roughly 40 luxury vehicles allegedly linked to the family of Sarah Discaya. The scrutiny was said to have started after an interview showcasing the family’s high-end car collection gained widespread attention online. Authorities explained that they are checking import documents, shipping records, and the identities of declared consignees to determine whether any customs regulations may have been violated. Public interest in the issue has further intensified as Discaya has also been associated with contractors involved in flood control projects currently under Senate investigation. In a separate development, reports confirmed the death of former Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Catalina Cabral, adding to the list of ongoing national concerns.

Meanwhile, veteran broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas became a topic of discussion on social media after posting a photo from her recent visit to Disneyland. She was photographed posing in front of a palace-themed attraction, which quickly caught the attention of online users. Her caption, which opened with “My P10 Million Palace,” drew mixed reactions, with some netizens viewing it as a playful reference to earlier allegations raised by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, while others took it as nothing more than a lighthearted joke. The post generated varied responses, as supporters commended her humor while critics shared different interpretations of the remark.
