Police said he was with family members who were originally headed to Buruanga, Aklan when they came across the resort online and chose to visit it.
An investigation by the Pandan Municipal Police Station revealed that the group did not rent a cottage or avail of life jackets, which were available at the resort.
Shortly after arriving, the victim, along with his uncle and cousin, reportedly jumped into the river.
Witnesses told authorities that the trio went straight to the deepest portion of the river even though they did not know how to swim.
The cold temperature of the water may have further contributed to the difficulty in staying afloat, according to police.
Rescue efforts were made, but the victim was eventually pulled from the water unconscious. He was rushed to the Justice Calixto Zaldivar Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Authorities said they have completed the initial investigation and are now waiting for the family’s decision on whether they will pursue filing a complaint against the resort’s management.
Police also took the opportunity to remind the public to observe safety precautions, especially when visiting natural water attractions, and to use protective equipment such as life vests to prevent similar tragedies.
In an earlier KAMI report, the Bureau of Customs was described as conducting a closer review of the importation of around 40 luxury vehicles reportedly linked to the family of Sarah Discaya. The scrutiny allegedly started after an interview showcasing the family’s high-end car collection gained traction on social media. Officials shared that import documents, shipping records, and the identities of declared consignees are being checked to determine whether customs regulations may have been breached. Interest in the issue has intensified as Discaya has also been associated with contractors tied to flood control projects that are currently under Senate examination. Separately, reports also confirmed the death of former Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Catalina Cabral, marking another notable development amid ongoing national concerns.
At the same time, seasoned broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas became a trending topic online after posting a photo from her recent Disneyland visit. In the image, she posed in front of a palace-themed attraction, quickly drawing the attention of netizens. Her caption, which opened with “My P10 Million Palace,” generated mixed interpretations, with some seeing it as a lighthearted reference to earlier claims raised by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, while others considered it a straightforward joke. The post sparked varied reactions, as admirers applauded her humor and critics shared alternative views on the remark.
