According to a report by Jhomer Apresto on 24 Oras Weekend on Saturday, the victim was identified as Marlon Hernandez, who was accused of entering a restricted construction area at noon on December 23, 2025.

The suspect, identified as a former colleague, allegedly confronted Hernandez after seeing him near the site.

Melody Hernandez, the victim’s sister, said Marlon had been invited to the area by the suspect’s brother, Arnel Labay, who planned to give him money to buy a new pair of slippers.

However, someone reportedly claimed to have seen Hernandez enter the restricted zone, which angered another individual identified as Aldrin.

CCTV footage showed Hernandez standing close to the construction site when the suspect approached him and threw a punch.

A second punch followed, causing Hernandez’s head to hit a wall before he collapsed on the ground.

Hernandez was rushed to the hospital but later died on Friday morning due to his injuries.

Barangay backtracking later contradicted the trespassing claim.

“Nagbabase ako sa CCTV ng private. Hindi ko po nakita ang pumasok,” says Barangay 367 executive officer Harry Pastor.

The suspect’s brother explained that entering the site was strictly prohibited due to repeated incidents of missing equipment.

Still, he said he never expected the situation to turn violent, noting that the victim was known to them and had worked with them before.

“Sabi ko sa kaniya, ‘Tol, gumawa ka ng ***, hindi mo kayang harapin.’ Kami dito, kahit anong klase kang tao. Unang una, pasensiya, siyempre kami ang naka-agrabiyado. Pero kami naman nakikipag-cooperate at kung ano naman maibibigay naming tulong, ibibigay naman namin,” says Arnel Labay.

Woman visiting boyfriend for Christmas in Tondo, killed by stray bullet

As of writing, the Manila Police District has yet to release an official statement, while authorities continue searching for the suspect, who is believed to be hiding in Bulacan.

In separate developments, authorities are investigating a disturbing act of intimidation after a package containing live .45-caliber bullets was found at a home in Barangay 5-D. The ammunition reportedly bore the names of three local government volunteers along with a written death threat. Audit team members Ernie Empemano and Rene Amorao believe the message was meant to harass them over their ongoing review of major infrastructure projects approved during the previous city administration. Despite the threat, the volunteers said they intend to continue their work, stressing that calls for transparency should not alarm those with nothing to hide. Police Lieutenant Colonel Redentor Tiraña confirmed that the San Pablo City Police have launched an investigation to determine who sent the threatening package.

Meanwhile, a separate incident caused widespread power outages in parts of Davao City on Christmas morning when a man climbed a utility pole and walked along live electrical lines in Barangay Ilang. To ensure the man’s safety, Davao Light and Power Co. temporarily shut down 69kV transmission lines, cutting electricity to several areas from Tibungco to Panacan for hours. The Bureau of Fire Protection and local police later rescued the man without injury. Authorities said he was experiencing drug-induced hallucinations and believed he was escaping an imagined threat. Power was fully restored by early afternoon, and officials confirmed that complaints for alarm and scandal will be filed against the individual due to the disruption caused.
