The woman was later found to have been hit by a bullet in the shoulder, which reportedly penetrated her lung.
A companion of the victim said they initially believed she had only been grazed by the bullet. She was immediately rushed to the hospital but was later declared dead.
The Manila Police District declined to issue a statement as the investigation remains ongoing.
However, one resident described the incident as resembling a shootout in their area.
“Narinig na lang po namin yung putok na sunod-sunod,” the resident recalled. “Akala namin nung una paputok lang na malakas lang po.”
Authorities found evidence of gunfire at the scene, including bullet marks on a wall and damage to a tricycle.
Police Major Hazel Asilo, spokesperson for the National Capital Region Police Office, confirmed that two individuals exchanged gunfire in the area and that the victim was hit by a stray bullet.
“Mayroon naman po tayong pagkakakilanlan pero sa ngayon patuloy pa rin po ang ating ginagawang imbestigasyon para matukoy kung sino ang mga salarin,” she said.
Police assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible and to determine the full sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting.
In a previous report by KAMI, the Bureau of Customs was reported to be conducting a deeper review into the importation of around 40 luxury vehicles allegedly linked to the family of Sarah Discaya. The scrutiny reportedly began after an interview featuring the family’s expensive car collection went viral online. Authorities are said to be examining import paperwork, shipping details, and the identities of declared consignees to check for possible violations of customs laws. Discaya has also been associated with contractors tied to flood control projects that are now under Senate review. Separately, reports also confirmed the death of former Department of Public Works and Highways undersecretary Catalina Cabral.
At the same time, seasoned broadcaster Korina Sanchez-Roxas drew attention on social media after posting a photo from her recent visit to Disneyland. Her caption, which began with the words “My P10 Million Palace,” generated mixed reactions from netizens, with some viewing it as a playful reference to earlier allegations raised by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
