Parish priest in Leyte, reported missing since Tuesday

Police are still searching for a Catholic priest from Abuyog, Leyte who has been missing since Tuesday after traveling to Tacloban City.

Authorities identified the priest as Father Edwin Caintoy, also known as Father Kutz. He is 55 years old and serves as parish priest of San Jose de Malibago Parish.

According to the Babatngon Municipal Police Station, Father Caintoy was last seen leaving at around 9:08 a.m. on Tuesday.

He first traveled to Barangay 108 in Tagpuro, Tacloban City on a motorcycle driven by a sacristan. After reaching Tagpuro, he boarded a bus to continue his trip.

Police said Father Caintoy got off the bus near Our Lady of Guadalupe Church along Quezon Boulevard in Tacloban City.

At around 9:52 a.m., CCTV cameras captured him walking from the VSYS Department Store toward Robinsons North Tacloban.

Since that time, no one has seen or heard from him. Authorities said he has not returned home and his location remains unknown.

Local police are urging anyone with information about Father Caintoy’s whereabouts to contact the Babatngon Municipal Police Station. Reports may also be sent through their hotline number at 0998-598-6483.

In a statement, the Archdiocese of Palo said it is working closely with authorities to help locate the missing priest.

People who may have information can also reach out to Father Gwen Padagdag, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Palo, through his contact number at 0928-219-3275.

In an earlier local report by KAMI, a family of three was mercilessly shot and killed inside their store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. CCTV footage showed three men entering the shop, closing the roll-up door, and then shooting the entire family to death. Before fleeing, one of the suspects also took a bag and a cellphone belonging to the victims. According to a report by Gary De Leon of TV5 Frontline Pilipinas, the family started receiving threats after they lent P1 million to a resident of their barangay, who allegedly used the money for a business.

In another viral local report, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. Based on a report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita, the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school’s faculty room. Police said the school had a security guard, but since the suspect was a familiar face, he was able to enter and leave easily. The suspect claimed he went there to talk to his wife and fix their issues, but the situation escalated into a heated argument.
