Benguet police authorities confirmed on Friday the death of former Department of Public Works and Highways undersecretary Catalina Cabral following what was described as an alleged fall along Kennon Road.

In an interview with GMA News Online, Police Major Peter Camsol, chief of the Tuba Municipal Police Station, said municipal physician Dr. Gian Frances Salinas pronounced Cabral dead at the scene beside the Bued River at 12:03 a.m. Friday.
Camsol added that the remains of the former official have since been transferred to a funeral home while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police said Cabral was earlier discovered unconscious and unresponsive about 20 to 30 meters below the highway, several hours after she reportedly asked her driver to leave her at a portion of Kennon Road.

Authorities noted that the incident is still being treated as an alleged fall.
Following the incident, the Office of the Ombudsman instructed local authorities to secure Cabral’s electronic devices.
"The Ombudsman’s office directs the authorities in Benguet to take custody of and preserve the cellphone and other gadgets of former Usec. Cathy Cabral," Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said.
He added that the items will later be handed over to investigators.
According to police reports, Cabral and her driver were traveling toward La Union on Thursday afternoon when she requested to be dropped off in the Maramal area.
When the driver returned later that day and failed to locate her, he sought police assistance in the evening.
Cabral resigned from her post in September amid congressional investigations into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
She was also expected to be invited as a resource person in an ongoing probe into alleged ghost and substandard projects, where former officials, including Cabral, were previously implicated in testimonies before the Senate.
In an earlier report by KAMI, a family of three was brutally killed inside their own store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. CCTV footage showed three men entering the establishment, pulling down the roll-up door, and repeatedly shooting the victims. After the shooting, one of the suspects was also seen taking a bag and a cellphone before fleeing the scene. According to a report by Gary De Leon of TV5’s “Frontline Pilipinas,” the family had allegedly begun receiving threats after lending ₱1 million to a neighbor who was said to have used the money as capital for a business.
Meanwhile, in another incident that sparked intense reactions online, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was killed after allegedly being stabbed multiple times by her own husband. Based on a report by EJ Gomez of “Unang Balita,” the attack took place inside the school’s faculty room. Police said there was a security guard assigned to the school, but the suspect was still able to enter because he was familiar with the premises. Authorities added that the man went to the school to talk to his wife and resolve their dispute, but the conversation escalated into a heated argument that ultimately led to the tragic outcome.
