A barber who was inside the salon at the time immediately rushed to help. He bravely intervened and struggled with the suspect until he was able to grab the bladed weapon, preventing further harm.
In the video, the victim can be seen holding his bloodied neck after sustaining a serious wound.
Authorities later arrested the suspect and began investigating the motive behind the attack.
Police revealed that the victim had been involved in a heated online dispute with the suspect’s live-in partner, which reportedly escalated over time.
“Nag-aaway sila through online posting. Medyo matagal-tagal na siguro nakapagsumbong ang kaaway ng biktima sa suspek (kaya ito nangyari),” says Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao spokesperson Major Joann Navarro.
The victim has since been declared in stable condition and has expressed determination to file formal charges against the suspect.
Meanwhile, the suspect has yet to issue a public statement, though authorities disclosed that he allegedly admitted to being intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Police continue to remind the public about the dangers of unresolved conflicts escalating from online platforms into real-life violence.
In other developments, Valenzuela City officials have formed a special task group to conduct an in-depth probe into the disturbing case of a pet dog discovered bleeding after its tongue was severely injured. Authorities are reviewing CCTV recordings that reportedly captured the animal’s anguished cries during the early hours of Tuesday. A witness has told investigators that the injury may have resulted from a fight or confrontation with another dog. Police stressed that all pieces of evidence, including video footage and witness accounts, are still being carefully examined and validated before any findings are finalized.
Meanwhile, in a separate tragedy in the southern part of the country, eight members of one family were killed in a devastating multicab accident in the town of Ayungon, Negros Oriental. Police said the vehicle lost its braking power while traveling down a steep road, leading to the fatal crash. The family was reportedly on their way to a cemetery to attend a memorial for a deceased relative, which was also meant to coincide with a Christmas gathering. Five other relatives, among them the multicab driver, survived the incident and are currently undergoing treatment in a hospital for their injuries.
