Kat de Castro, who previously worked as a journalist at ABS-CBN before entering public service and now serves as director-general of the Public Information Agency, has often acted as her father’s voice online when concerns arise. Her brief but calm update helped stop speculation, especially given the long history of misleading reports surrounding her father’s condition.

Over the years, Noli de Castro has repeatedly been the subject of malicious death rumors circulating online. One notable incident happened in 2021, when Kat publicly denied claims that her father had supposedly slipped, lost consciousness, and passed away. Some of those false posts even used the name of fellow broadcaster Ted Failon, alarming fans and supporters.

The broadcast veteran himself later addressed these false reports during a congressional hearing in April. Reflecting on the experience, he said, Sabi nga ho nila, kapag nabalita na patay na kayo, ay mas hahaba pa ang buhay nyo. But sabi ho naming mga personalities, bad news or good news ay publicity pa rin po. Kaya pag may ganyan ay paguusapan pa rin kayo.” He added that while he has learned to accept such rumors, they remain difficult for his family.

Despite the recent reassurance, it is not the first time Noli de Castro’s health has drawn public attention. During the pandemic, he took an extended break from TV Patrol after needing to quarantine when a makeup artist tested positive for Covid. His absence then also sparked concern, which was later clarified.

Earlier this year, viewers noticed that he was missing from his television and radio programs for several weeks. Kat later explained that her father experienced complications related to sciatica, prompting him to rest and recover away from the public eye.

Noli de Castro celebrated his 76th birthday last July 6. Beyond broadcasting, he is remembered for serving as the country’s 12th vice president from 2004 to 2010 under the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. His long career in media and public service has made him one of the most recognizable and trusted figures in Philippine television.
