The suspects, known only by their aliases "Aldrin" and "Digoy," had been living in the shadows for nearly ten years.
However, the long arm of the law—aided by modern technology and old-fashioned police ingenuity—finally caught up with them this week.
The breakthrough came from the digital realm. According to Police Major Loreto Tigno of the Pasig police, diligent cyber patrolling allowed investigators to spot the suspects on social media.
This digital footprint provided the first real lead in years, pinpointing one brother, Aldrin, to a hideout in Valenzuela City.
To confirm the target's identity without spooking him, intelligence operatives executed a creative "Trojan Horse" operation.
Disguising themselves as volunteer charity workers distributing goods, they approached the suspect's residence.
This ruse allowed them to get close enough to inspect Aldrin's identification card under the guise of verifying him for aid.
Once his identity was confirmed, the officers withdrew, planned their takedown, and arrested him just hours later as he stepped out of his house.
With one brother in custody, the police immediately pivoted to the second suspect, Digoy. A specialized team motored all the way to Camalig, Albay, where he was successfully apprehended, bringing the manhunt to a complete close.
The arrests bring back the haunting memories of the crime committed in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig, in 2015.
Police reports state that the brothers bludgeoned their neighbor, Aristotle Sulat, to death. The brutality of the act stands in stark contrast to the pettiness of the motive, which is a dispute over a water meter.
The victim's widow, who witnessed the horror, recounted the helplessness she felt at the time. She frantically tried to intervene, pleading with the brothers to stop their assault, but her cries fell on deaf ears.
For ten years, she has carried the weight of that day, waiting for the men responsible to answer for their actions.
Currently, both suspects are detained at the Pasig police station. As of this writing, they have remained silent and have not issued a statement regarding the allegations.
For the Sulat family, while the pain of loss remains, the arrests offer a long-overdue sense of closure.
In other news, a man known as Ted Veneracion was fatally shot directly outside his residence in Barangay Sapang, Jaen, Nueva Ecija, in what appeared to be a targeted attack. Security camera footage captured a motorcycle driving around the immediate vicinity just moments before the killing, followed by a second individual seen escaping as a passenger after the crime. The victim’s daughter reported hearing two distinct gunshots, after which she found her father lifeless on the pavement with a critical wound to his head. Authorities are currently reviewing additional CCTV records and conducting extensive backtracking operations as the grieving family publicly demands accountability and justice for the murder. https://kami.com.ph/philippines/181949-father-fatally-shot-by-riders-home/
Still in other news, a devastating fire in Cordova, Cebu, not only incinerated the home of the Baguio family but also tragically consumed the body of a 35-year-old female relative that was currently lying in state. Initial investigations suggest that the blaze originated when a glowing incense coil, part of the wake rituals, reportedly fell onto a tray of eggs before igniting nearby curtains. The victim's mother expressed profound sorrow, not only over the fire but also the added stress of allegedly being required to pay for the damaged funeral lights and the destroyed coffin. In response to the double tragedy, the local government stepped in, providing the affected family with urgent financial aid, necessary food supplies, and a commitment to furnish materials for rebuilding their house.https://kami.com.ph/philippines/181948-fire-destroys-cebu-home-burns-remains-a-dead-family-member-a-wake/
