The blaze broke out at around 5 p.m. on December 10, 2025, at Sitio Sambagan in Barangay Pilipog, according to a report by Lou-Anne Mae Rondina of GMA Regional TV.
The fire struck the residence of the Baguio family while they were preparing for the final days of their loved one’s wake.
Myrna Baguio Salazar, 57, said the tragedy compounded her sorrow as the flames destroyed their house and the coffin of her daughter.

She recounted that she and her husband hurried outside as the fire spread quickly.
She said her husband had difficulty moving, which made their escape even more urgent.
Other family members attempted to carry the coffin out of the burning structure but were unable to do so in time.
Investigators later determined that the fire originated from a lit incense coil.
Fire investigator FO1 Bemil Genaro Jr. said, "Isang nakasinding katol ang itinuturing na sanhi ng sunog." In a separate sentence, he explained that it had ignited a tray of eggs and a curtain.
Salazar said her worries grew when she was reportedly asked to pay for funeral lights that were destroyed in the blaze.
She added in another statement that she still needed to settle the cost of her daughter’s coffin.
Cordova Mayor Cesar Didoy Suan extended assistance to the affected family, giving P10,000 to Andresa Baguio, the homeowner, and P20,000 to the Salazar family.
The local government also provided rice and canned goods. Mayor Suan promised to send building materials so reconstruction could begin soon. MSWDO head Perlito Mahinay said family members who help rebuild will each receive P5,000.
In other news, the week-long search for a missing ten-year-old girl in Bataraza, Palawan ended in tragedy after her body was discovered in a creek in Barangay Bulalacao. The child had been missing since November 29, when she went out to sell vegetables with her friends—a routine task that became the last time she was seen alive. Her companions told investigators that the suspect drove them to the town center but allegedly separated the young girl from the group, taking her away while leaving the others behind. Authorities have arrested the alleged perpetrator, who is now facing a murder complaint, as forensic specialists prepare to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, at NAIA Terminal 1, a routine flight bound for the United States descended into chaos after a male passenger abruptly grabbed and choked his travel companion inside the pre-departure area. The outburst triggered panic among other travelers, especially since the incident occurred within a supposedly secure zone beyond the final security screening. Airline personnel immediately offloaded both men from the flight, causing them to miss their trip as police stepped in to control the situation. What began as an airport scuffle has now turned into a criminal matter, with the victim filing a formal complaint against his companion at the airport police station.
