Authorities in Mandaue City are investigating the fatal ambush of a certified public accountant and lawyer who was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants on Thursday morning.

The attack happened along Sacris Road in Barangay Bakilid while the victim was driving to work.

According to a report from Gabriel Bonjoc of Super Radyo Cebu, the shooting occurred without warning as the man’s vehicle moved along the busy stretch of road.

Police said the suspects, who were riding a motorcycle, approached the car and opened fire several times before escaping.

Investigators learned that the victim resided in the town of Consolacion and worked as an examiner for the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

He was later identified as Atty. Duke Ramil Perral Lincuna. Authorities are now looking into possible motives behind the attack and are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to help track down the perpetrators.

In a separate report by GMA Regional TV, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu Chapter condemned the killing and expressed deep concern over the violence directed at a member of the legal community.

The group issued a statement saying, "The IBP Cebu Chapter unequivocally condemns this brazen act of violence."

The organization added in another sentence that the incident is “a direct, grievous assault on the rule of law and the legal profession itself.”

IBP Cebu further stressed that attacks against lawyers undermine the justice system.

The group stated that the ambush "seeks to obstruct the administration of justice and shall not be tolerated."

Police have yet to determine whether the crime was related to the victim’s profession. Investigations remain ongoing as authorities call for witnesses to step forward.
