This bond made a recent discovery in the town of Ibajay not only financially devastating but deeply heartbreaking for one local resident.
Adel Secciona, a farmer from Barangay Antipolo, was left in tears after stumbling upon a scene straight out of a nightmare.
His beloved carabao, which he had left to graze and rest just a day prior, was found dead—suspended in the air, hanging by a rope from a tree.
According to a report by the local authorities, Secciona had tethered the animal near a grassy area on December 6, intending to let it feed.
When he returned early the next morning to check on it, he was greeted by the gruesome sight.
In an interview, Secciona could not hide his anguish. The shock of seeing his animal in such a state broke his composure.
"Pagkakita ko umiyak ako, ‘di ko mapigilan. Tapos nilapitan ko at hinimas-himas na lang kasi naawa ako, kasi patay na talaga," Secciona recalled, his voice thick with emotion.
He described approaching the lifeless animal and gently stroking it, a final gesture of affection for a creature that had died in such a confusing and brutal manner.
"Yung ulo nakatali, parang nakatanga. Yung leeg nilagyan ng tali, parang binigti," he described, still struggling to comprehend the cruelty involved.
However, investigators from the Ibajay Municipal Police Station have revealed a disturbing detail. This was likely not a random act of madness. It appears to be part of a sickening pattern plaguing the province.
Police Lieutenant Rezie Bulanon, deputy chief of the Ibajay Police, disclosed that similar incidents had occurred in the preceding weeks.
On the same day Secciona left his animal, another case was reported in a different area. Furthermore, reports of animals being tied up and hanged have surfaced in the nearby barangays of Ondoy, Tagbaya, and Aquino.
The authorities strongly suspect that a specific group of individuals is moving through these barangays, targeting defenseless livestock.
The motive remains unclear, but the method is consistently brutal.
"Kung sino gumawa nito, the same rin sigurong grupo," Lt. Bulanon stated. In response to the rising threat, the police have issued an urgent advisory to the farming community. "Kaya ang ina-advice [advise] namin sa mga residente na kung maaari lang, kung sino pa ang may mga alagang kalabaw o baka, dalhin na lang muna malapit sa bahay."
In other news, a 35-year-old security guard who left his residence in Talakag, Bukidnon, to locate a stray cow was later tragically found deceased. Police investigations at the scene revealed the victim succumbed to a gunshot wound at the back of his head, complemented by multiple stab wounds on his back. The victim's body was found by his own mother the morning after he failed to return home from his search, bringing the distressing event to light. Authorities are currently facing a baffling case, as the family of the deceased stated they are unaware of any personal disputes or conflicts the victim might have had.
Still in other news, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has swiftly reacted to a viral video by issuing a Show Cause Order (SCO) and imposing a three-month license suspension on the offending female motorist. The video that triggered the disciplinary action showed the driver making a visible toast with what appeared to be a wine glass while actively driving, fueling public safety concerns. LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao declared the incident as a sign that the agency must intensify its strict enforcement of anti-drunk driving laws leading into the festive season. To bolster the campaign against intoxication, the LTO is leveraging 400 breath analyzer units deployed nationally to conduct objective, scientific roadside checks for impaired driving.
