The collision occurred in Barangay Upper Sta. Ana, where the force of the impact caused the truck to tip on its side and threw the tricycle and its passengers off the road.
According to a report by James Paolo Yap for GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, the tricycle was carrying five individuals when the speeding truck came from behind.
Police investigators said the truck reportedly suffered brake failure while descending a sloped portion of the highway.

The tricycle, unable to maneuver away, absorbed the full force of the crash.
Police Capt. Geraldine Botanas, spokesperson for the Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office, said all occupants of the tricycle were rushed to the hospital, along with the truck driver and his helper.
She explained that the severity of the crash left rescuers with limited time to save the victims.
Tragically, the truck driver died along with three tricycle passengers. The fatalities included a one-year-old girl, a 34-year-old woman, and a 61-year-old woman.
Despite the intense impact, the truck’s helper survived, as did the tricycle driver and a three-year-old boy who was the sibling of the infant who passed away.
Authorities said an initial discussion has already taken place between the victims’ families and the trucking company involved in the accident.
Police are expected to continue examining possible liabilities and reviewing road safety measures, especially along the downhill stretch where the tragedy occurred.
The incident has renewed calls among residents for stricter inspections of heavy vehicles and more safety precautions along high-risk roads in the province.
A community in Davao City is reeling after a 74-year-old man was killed by his own grandson. Relatives shared that the 27-year-old suspect had a history of aggressive behavior toward the victim and had been confined to a mental health facility multiple times before the attack. The family has decided not to file criminal charges and instead intends to have him placed under psychiatric care. The loss of the elderly man has left neighbors and residents deeply shaken.
In another case, an 18-year-old student died following the circulation of an unauthorized CCTV clip that allegedly showed her taking ice cream without paying. According to her family, the spread of the video caused overwhelming humiliation, fear, and anxiety. Complaints have since been filed against the store owner and the study room supervisor for possible violations of privacy laws.
These incidents have reignited nationwide concern over digital cruelty and the dangers of sharing sensitive content, especially when minors are involved. Experts warn that online actions can carry severe real-world consequences, while advocates continue to push for stronger mental health support and greater awareness to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
