20-year-old female student found dead in rented room in Cotabato

Authorities in Makilala, Cotabato are investigating the tragic death of a 20-year-old student who was found dead inside her boarding house on Thursday afternoon, December 5.

Police confirmed that the victim was discovered in Purok 2, Sta. Catalina, Barangay San Vicente after residents reported a strong foul odor coming from her room.
According to the Makilala Municipal Police Station, officers were alerted at around 4:40 p.m. when a concerned neighbor sought help due to the alarming smell.
Investigators say the student was already in an advanced state of decomposition when they arrived at the scene.

Police have not yet released her name as they are still coordinating with her family.
Responding officers found the young woman lying lifeless on the floor of her rented space.
Neighbors told investigators that the student was believed to be pregnant. They also shared that she had not been seen outside her room since December 2.
One resident said the odor became increasingly difficult to ignore. The neighbor added that concern grew after days passed without any sign of the student.
This worry eventually prompted them to check on her, leading to the discovery of the body.
Authorities say they have yet to determine whether any form of foul play took place.
A team from the Scene of the Crime Operatives has begun a detailed forensic examination of the room to gather evidence and clarify the circumstances surrounding her death.
The Makilala police said the inquiry remains ongoing. They added that more information will be released once investigators complete their assessment and notify the victim’s family.
