According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Sector 3, the rider from Marikina was at fault for ignoring the red light. Capt. Jennifer Agustin said that "the motorcycle rider from Marikina collided with the motorcycle that was turning left towards Anonas."
She added in a separate sentence that "he was beating the red light, which is why they collided at the intersection."
Emergency responders rushed both riders to the hospital shortly after the crash.
The delivery rider succumbed to his injuries while under medical care, while the other motorist survived and is currently recovering in confinement.
Police confirmed that charges will be filed against the rider from Marikina. He is set to face a case of reckless imprudence resulting in h&micide and damage to property once he is cleared for release from the hospital.
Capt. Agustin also urged motorists to take road safety seriously. She reminded the public that "traffic rules must be followed to avoid incidents like this."
Authorities are hoping that the tragedy will prompt stricter adherence to traffic signals, especially during late-night hours when drivers tend to speed through intersections.
