A Filipina caregiver is being hailed as a hero after sustaining injuries while saving her employer and the family’s baby from a devastating fire in Hong Kong earlier this week.

The fire, which engulfed seven high-rise buildings at W@ng Fuk Court on Wednesday, left many residents scrambling for safety as thick smoke rapidly filled the area.
Philippine Consul General Romulo Victor Israel Jr. shared details of the incident during an interview with DZMM Teleradyo.
He said, "She really took care of her ward, yung kanyang inaalagaang baby at kanyang employer."

According to Israel, the overseas Filipino worker acted swiftly to protect the people under her care despite the life-threatening situation.
The Filipina was exposed to heavy carbon monoxide as she navigated through the smoke-filled building.
She was rushed to a hospital and placed in the intensive care unit. Israel said she is now in stable condition.
He added that several OFWs in the area also acted quickly to bring their employers to safety, noting that the fire alarm reportedly failed to alert residents in time.
Israel explained the bravery shown by many Filipino workers.
"Hindi na po sila naghintay," Israel said.
He emphasized that some caregivers even carried the babies they were looking after as they fled to safety.
The Consul General commended the compassion and instinctive concern Filipinos show in crises.
"Maganda yung ganung initiative on the part of our workers," he said.
He noted that Filipinos’ familiarity with natural disasters likely contributes to their quick response in emergencies.
Government reports confirmed that at least 23 OFWs were affected by the fire, with 13 still unaccounted for. The latest updates from authorities placed the death toll at 128.
