Taking to Facebook, Xian expressed sharp criticism of the suggested P500 budget, arguing that it does not reflect real market conditions experienced by ordinary Filipinos.

Xian began by questioning why the DTI needed to release a Noche Buena budget in the first place, writing, “Ang hindi ko maintindihan eh kung bakit kailangan niyo pang mag-release ng Noche Buena Budget? Bakit hindi na lang kayo manahimik ha?”

He followed this by pointing out the financial strain already felt by many households, saying, “Ang mahal na nga ng bilihin, hirap na hirap na nga yung mga tao, tinatarantado niyo pa.”

He then argued that the proposed P500 budget would only work under unrealistic scenarios, stating, “Yung 500 niyo magkakasya lang yan kung mayaman yung kapitbahay niyo tapos pinadalhan kayo ng hamon, shanghai, spaghetti at fruit salad.” According to him, the amount would barely cover minimal items, adding, “Kumbaga keso, tinapay at Coke na lang yung bibilhin mo.”

Xian continued by criticizing the DTI’s price guide as disconnected from everyday market realities. He wrote, “Yung price guide na nilalabas ninyo eh parang nasa ibang multiverse eh. Lost in touch sa reality.” He then questioned how proper price regulation could be expected if the basic holiday budget estimate was already off, saying, “Paano niyo mare-regulate ng tama yung presyo ng mga bilihin sa Pinas kung simpleng budget for noche buena ay malayo sa realidad?”

He stated, “Sa 11 countries of Southeast Asia, sumunod tayo sa Singapore pagdating sa presyo ng bilihin.” He underscored the severity of the comparison, adding, “Mas mahal pa tayo sa Taiwan at rural Japan pero yung sahod sa atin ka-level lang ng Vietnam.”
