The driver coordinated closely with Patrolman Niño Divinagracia, who arrived at the scene to help residents clinging to debris as the water level rose.

The footage showed Divinagracia losing balance and falling from the vehicle while trying to reach one of the victims.

One of the helpers immediately pulled him to safety even as the flood intensified.

Moments later, three more individuals were carried downstream, prompting the driver to reposition the van once again to break the force of the water.

Despite his injuries from the fall, Divinagracia was seen holding on to a victim and guiding her to safety. All six people were eventually pulled from harm’s way.

In a statement, Police Brigadier Gen. Redrico Maranan praised the civilians’ “quick action and courage,” adding that their efforts likely prevented further casualties.
