The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, just after 7:00 p.m., as the jeepney was traveling from a mall in Santa Cruz towards Pritil.

CCTV footage captured a glimpse of the aftermath near the corner of Tayuman Street and Juan Luna in Barangay 154, showing five men quickly disembarking the passenger vehicle.

The suspects then casually walked toward the gate of a nearby supermarket before scattering, while the jeepney sped away.

Initial investigations by the Jose Abad Santos Police Station suggest the robbery was meticulously planned.

According to statements gathered by Barangay 55 Executive Officer Clodualdo Frago, four of the five suspects may have already been aboard the jeepney since the Santa Cruz mall terminal.

The fifth suspect reportedly boarded separately near Dagupan Street, which is when the operation commenced.

"Nag-declare ng hold-up paglagpas po ng Dagupan," Frago stated. "Biglaan, marami sila sa loob ng jeep. May mga pera, cellphone, kasama po pa ‘yung ibang mga gadget ng pasahero."

The armed men reportedly used bladed weapons to intimidate the commuters, ensuring quick compliance as they systematically stripped the passengers of their valuables.

The most distressing loss was reported by one victim who was scheduled to fly to Indonesia the following morning.

The passenger’s passport, essential for overseas travel and work, was among the items violently snatched by the robbers.

This loss creates immediate and significant hurdles, potentially delaying or even canceling the victim's critical trip abroad, underscoring the severe impact of such crimes beyond mere financial loss.

As of the report, authorities confirmed that only one victim has officially reported the crime to the police, though it is assumed many more passengers were victimized.

The Manila Police District has launched a comprehensive manhunt operation. Investigators are coordinating with the management of the nearby supermarket to secure clearer CCTV footage that might reveal the faces of the suspects and their exact direction of escape.

This evidence is deemed vital for the police to be able to identify and apprehend the five robbers responsible for this bold act of highway banditry.
