An illegal firecracker workshop in Dagupan City, Pangasinan exploded on Sunday afternoon and left five people hurt.

Residents said the blast sounded like a volcanic eruption and even felt like an earthquake.
Thick smoke rose high into the sky and could be seen from far away.
Some homes around the area were damaged, and windows shattered due to the force of the explosion.
Dagupan City Fire Marshal FCInsp. Jun Eland Wanawan reported that four houses suffered damage.
Police Colonel Orly Pagaduan said the workers were testing firecrackers without proper safety equipment.
They were working under a simple tent with no roof, and black powder scattered on the ground was hit by a spark.
Authorities confirmed that the workshop was illegal and had no permit to operate. One of the victims remains in critical condition.
Three people were rushed to the hospital first, followed by two elderly residents who were hit by debris.
Most people living inside the compound said they did not know there was a firecracker workshop there.
Officials reminded the public that firecracker facilities must be far from residential areas for safety.
GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon is still trying to get a statement from the workshop’s owner.

The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
