An armed attack hit Tipo-Tipo town in Basilan on Tuesday morning, leaving one person injured.
Early reports said the attackers were supported by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), but Joint Task Force Orion Commander Major General Leonardo Peña clarified later that the MILF had nothing to do with it.
The Tipo-Tipo local government announced the suspension of classes, government work, and business activities.
In a Facebook post, it said the town was under siege by lawless elements and advised everyone to stay safe and pray for peace.

Mayor Ingatun Istarul said negotiations were ongoing while coordinating with government agencies to keep residents safe.
He also urged people to remain calm, avoid spreading false information, and follow official instructions.
The Philippine Army confirmed the incident and assured the public that troops were deployed to secure the town.
Army spokesperson Colonel Louie Dema-ala said coordination was ongoing with the LGU and other security agencies to restore order and help affected communities.
Peña explained that the conflict was related to a local clan war between nearby barangays.
The fight reportedly started after a former rebel was killed in a local dispute, prompting revenge attacks that led to the clash near the municipal hall.
He said the tension eased around 11:20 a.m. after elders led a negotiation, causing the armed groups to withdraw.
Authorities continue to monitor the area to maintain peace and prevent further violence.

According to the report of EJ Gomez in 'Unang Balita,' the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school's faculty room. Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
