According to a report by Efren Mamac on "GMA Regional TV One Mindanao," a hospital watcher discovered the infant, who was still breathing and had his umbilical cord attached.

The good Samaritan immediately brought the baby, weighing 1.9 kilograms, to the hospital’s emergency room for urgent medical care.

“The baby boy was rescued immediately and nagawan ng paraan para malunasan yung bata. At the moment, ginagamot at binigyan na siya ng appropriate management and treatment ideal for newborn babies and exposed dito sa maruming environment,” said BARMM Health Minister Dr. Kadil Sinolinding Jr.

Hospital officials later confirmed that the baby’s mother was a 16-year-old girl who had earlier gone to the facility complaining of abdominal pain. She reportedly excused herself to go to the restroom but never returned.

“Nagsabi yung mother, ‘puwede mag-CR muna ako?’ So pumasok siya sa CR… So pag-CR niya, nanganak siya sa CR… Pagkapanganak niya, nilagay niya sa basurahan yung baby. Umuwi siya ng bahay,” said Buluan District Hospital Chief of Professional Medical Staff, Dr. Noriza Mangansakan-Midtimbang.

The teenager later came back to the hospital due to heavy bleeding and is now being treated alongside her newborn. The local government has extended aid to provide milk, diapers, and other baby essentials.

Dr. Sinolinding reminded parents to be vigilant in guiding their children, noting that the girl’s family was unaware of her pregnancy.
