Judge Carmela Rosario Pasquin, 41, who presided over the Municipal Circuit Trial Court serving the towns of Pinamungajan and Aloguinsan, was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital after the motorcycle she was riding as a passenger was struck by another motorcycle.
The tragic accident occurred around 6:55 a.m. along the national highway in Barangay Cabiangon. Judge Pasquin was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her 48-year-old colleague, a court process server, as the two traveled toward the Pinamungajan town center.
This daily commute, a routine for many in the province, was tragically interrupted.
Initial investigation by the Pinamungajan Police Station revealed that the two-wheeled vehicle carrying the judge was suddenly struck by another motorcycle.
The second vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old rider, allegedly swerved unexpectedly, clipping the motorcycle carrying the judge and her colleague.
The impact of the collision was severe, causing the judge to be thrown and sustain grave injuries.
Both the judge and her colleague were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in a desperate race against time.
Unfortunately, despite the quick response, Judge Pasquin was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending medical staff. Her colleague, the court process server, also sustained injuries but is currently receiving treatment.
The crash also left the young driver of the other motorcycle injured, along with his two female passengers, aged 39 and 47.
The 19-year-old driver of the swerving motorcycle is now in the custody of the authorities. Police are preparing to file the appropriate charges, which will likely include reckless imprudence resulting in hom1cide, pending the results of the ongoing investigation.
