Bus driver forgoes charges against businessman after road altercation in Cavite

The bus driver who was seen being assaulted by a businessman along a road in Silang, Cavite, has chosen not to pursue legal action, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed.

The incident, which occurred last Saturday, reportedly started when the businessman’s wife sideswiped the bus using their pick-up truck. The bus driver then stopped and confronted the couple, leading to the altercation that was caught on video and circulated online.

PNP public information chief Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said in a press briefing at Camp Crame, “Na-settle naman kinabukasan yung kaso at nag-execute ng affidavit of no interest to file criminal charges yung driver ng bus.”

He added that both parties reached an agreement covering the bus driver’s medical treatment and moral damages amounting to ₱40,000, as well as ₱18,000 for the repair of the damaged bus. Tuaño withheld the names of both individuals, identifying only their ages—52 for the bus driver and 33 for the businessman.

Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation announced that the pick-up driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days. The driver was also summoned to explain why they should not face a case for reckless driving following the viral road incident.
