14-year-old cyclist dies after collision with dump truck in Quezon City

A 14-year-old boy lost his life after his bicycle collided with a dump truck along the C5 Extension Road in Barangay Old Balara, Quezon City, late Thursday night, October 16.

According to initial police reports, the incident occurred past 11:00 p.m. when the young cyclist was traversing the busy stretch of the road.
The impact left the boy severely injured. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Authorities from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and identify possible lapses that may have led to the fatal collision.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby establishments to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash.
Meanwhile, the 55-year-old driver of the dump truck involved in the incident has been placed under police custody.
Officers from QCPD Traffic Sector 5 confirmed that the driver will undergo questioning as part of the ongoing probe.
Residents in the area expressed concern over the recurring accidents along C5 Extension, calling for stricter road safety measures and better lighting, especially at night.
Authorities reminded both motorists and cyclists to exercise extra caution when traveling along major thoroughfares, particularly during late hours, to prevent similar tragedies from happening.
