A former employee of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-Region 10, who had been outspoken on social media about alleged corruption in the agency, was shot dead in Cagayan de Oro City on Friday, October 10.

Police identified the victim as Niruh Kyle Antatico, 40, a married Juris Doctor graduate. Initial investigation revealed that motorcycle-riding gunmen attacked him around 7 p.m. in Zone 1, Crossing Patag.
Antatico died instantly at the scene. Authorities have launched a follow-up investigation and a manhunt to identify and apprehend the suspects.

In a Facebook post, Suan described Antatico as “a committed crusader for good public service, truth, and justice,” and urged law enforcement to conduct a “swift, transparent, and thorough investigation” to ensure those responsible face justice.
The NIA-Northern Mindanao office also issued a statement acknowledging Antatico’s social media posts alleging corruption.
It assured the public that the concerns he raised are being “handled seriously” and that the agency’s top management has begun a “comprehensive review and verification process.”
NIA further emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability, stating it “does not tolerate any form of irregularity” and urging the public to “avoid speculations and allow due process to take its course.”
