Police said the suspect initially asked about the exchange rate and stepped out for a short while, saying he needed to call his wife.
When he returned, he opened his bag, pretending to take out foreign bills, but instead revealed the toy gun. He then threatened the worker and demanded all the cash.
Officers from the Quezon City Police District later tracked the suspect’s car through CCTV footage and arrested him in a condominium in Pasig City.
They recovered P400,000 of the stolen money and the toy gun used in the crime.
According to Kamuning Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Zachary Capellan, backtracking and forward tracking led to the suspect’s location after two days of investigation.
The 25-year-old suspect is now detained at Kamuning Police Station. He refused to give a statement, saying only, “Not really at this moment. Yeah, no comment.”
Police records revealed he had been charged with qualified theft in 2023. Authorities have filed new cases against him for robbery and violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
