Government agencies join forces in helping families affected by the Cebu magnitude 6.9 earthquake

Government offices launched efforts to support quake-hit communities in Bogo, Cebu after the magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Tuesday.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian announced that food aid is ready for affected families. He said 300,000 food packs are already pre-positioned in Cebu.

The Department of Energy activated a task force to restore power, while DOH deployed four medical teams to the province.

Health Secretary Ted Herbosa admitted that their P500 million quick response fund has been reduced by past disasters.

Only P166 million remains to respond to both Cebu and typhoon-hit Masbate. He said he may request more funds from the Department of Budget and Management.

Herbosa also directed PhilHealth to shoulder medical expenses of quake victims in all hospitals. He added that mental health teams will be sent to provide psychosocial support.

DOH also has a stockpile of medicines and emergency supplies stored in Pampanga for disasters like this.

The National Housing Authority (NHA) ordered a rapid assessment of projects in Regions 6, 7, and 8.

Initial reports showed 34 housing units in Bogo were damaged under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project, though no residents were hurt.

Repairs will be covered under the contractors’ liability clause. Possible cash aid for affected beneficiaries is also being reviewed.

DPWH worked to clear blocked roads and remove debris. Engineers are checking the safety of structures and repairing damaged hospitals so services can return to normal for the victims.

The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
