A 19-year-old girl was raped and killed in Sitio Pinasagan, Barangay Linantuyan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Tuesday, September 30, in a crime that has drawn outrage from both authorities and the local community.

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), under the leadership of Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, strongly denounced the incident, Manila Bulletin reported.

“We share the grief of the victim’s family and stand with the community in demanding justice,” Ibay said in a statement, stressing that violence against women and children is a grave offense that will never be tolerated.

Police reports said the victim was discovered naked and lifeless in the middle of a sugarcane plantation.

She bore multiple stab wounds, indicating a brutal attack. The Guihulngan City Health Office conducted a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

In a swift follow-up operation, authorities arrested a 33-year-old farmer in the same barangay on Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses positively identified him as the suspect.

During the operation, police also recovered a knife and other pieces of evidence believed to be linked to the crime.

The suspect is currently detained at Guihulngan City Police Station and faces multiple criminal charges.

Police vowed to exhaust all resources to ensure that justice will be served, underscoring their commitment that such atrocities should have no place in Negros Island.

Authorities further urged residents to remain vigilant and to report immediately any information that could aid in the resolution of the case.
