Authorities said the suspect, who is a graduating criminology student, first approached the victim by offering her ₱20,000 in exchange for intimate materials.

When she refused, he allegedly threatened to expose her private photos and videos online unless she agreed to his demands.

The victim’s father reported the matter to authorities, leading to an entrapment operation in Ermita, Manila.

The suspect was arrested shortly after meeting with the victim and police operatives.

He now faces charges related to sexual exploitation, coercion, and possible violations of laws safeguarding women and children.

Police stressed that the case serves as a warning about the growing trend of “sextortion,” where predators blackmail victims into compliance by using or fabricating explicit content.

Officials noted that such crimes often go unreported due to fear, embarrassment, or threats from perpetrators.

This arrest follows a string of similar cases in recent months. Earlier this year, the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group apprehended several suspects involved in online sexual abuse of minors.

In a separate case, the National Bureau of Investigation also arrested a man in Manila for alleged sextortion and grave coercion involving intimate photos.

Authorities are urging parents and guardians to maintain open communication with their children to prevent exploitation, while advocacy groups continue to push for digital safety awareness programs in schools.
