Loren Cruz, the owner of the so-called “tambayan” where money from anomalous flood control projects was allegedly delivered, denied accusations that he served as the bagman of dismissed Bulacan first district engineer Henry Alcantara.

“Hindi po ako bagman,” Cruz said during Tuesday’s resumption of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing.
He clarified that he is a businessman, not a middleman for corrupt deals.
Former Bulacan assistant district engineer Brice Hernandez earlier testified that Cruz acted as Alcantara’s bagman.

Cruz admitted owning the “tambayan” but claimed he knew of only one instance when money was brought there. Senator Raffy Tulfo rebuked his explanation, saying it was implausible for large sums to be dropped off without his knowledge.
“So hindi mo alam magbabagsak diyan milyones na pera diyan sa bahay mo. Hindi ka aware? Ano ka? Ta__ga?” Tulfo remarked.
Defending himself, Cruz said the place was open to visitors anytime, and he did not monitor their comings and goings.
“Pagkakita ko po, ‘yung isang instance na ‘yun, ay pinagsabihan ko sila na ‘wag na sila magdadala doon,” he added, stressing he was not connected to the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Hernandez, however, contradicted him, saying money was delivered there multiple times, including one occasion involving a billion pesos intended for a proponent.
He recalled Alcantara mentioning Representative Zaldy Co. Hernandez insisted he received no commission for the delivery.
Tulfo, unconvinced by Cruz’s statements, bluntly told him he was a “liar.”
