The body of a 16-year-old sacristan who had been missing for nearly three days after being swept away by strong currents at Bugasok Falls in Barangay Conalum, Argao town, southern Cebu, has finally been recovered, Cebu Daily News reported.

Authorities identified the victim as Russell Morsillos, a resident of Barangay Tulic in Argao. Morsillos served as an altar server in his parish while also pursuing his studies at a local high school.

Reports said his body was discovered stuck to a tree branch along the riverbank, about three kilometers from where he was last seen swimming last Saturday afternoon.

According to police, Morsillos was with 11 schoolmates when they decided to swim at Bugasok Falls, a mountain barangay located roughly 13 kilometers from Argao’s town proper.

Witnesses said the group entered the falls without informing barangay personnel or coordinating with local residents.

Around 3 p.m. on that day, the waters suddenly swelled, sweeping Morsillos away. His friends immediately searched the area but failed to locate him.

They later reported the incident, stating that he had been carried off by the strong current.

After days of search and retrieval operations, rescuers finally recovered his remains, bringing an end to the ordeal of his family and community.

The tragic incident has raised concerns over safety measures for visitors to natural attractions like Bugasok Falls.

Authorities reminded the public to observe proper coordination and exercise caution when visiting rivers and falls, especially during unpredictable weather conditions.
