The strong impact threw her to the ground, leaving her unconscious and badly injured.
Relatives shared that Maglasang’s early morning routine involved leaving home at around 4:00 a.m. to purchase vegetables from Carbon Public Market.
She would then resell the goods in her neighborhood and also prepare meals for sale to support her daily livelihood.
The driver, identified only as “Alex,” a resident of Barangay Binaliw, explained that he failed to notice Maglasang due to poor visibility.
“It was dark and raining at the time of the crash,” he said, adding that although he was driving slowly, he was caught off guard when he realized he had struck the elderly woman and her cart.
Despite the accident, Alex has assured Maglasang’s family that he will shoulder all her hospital bills.
He also expressed regret over the incident, vowing to cooperate fully as the victim continues to receive treatment in critical condition.
Authorities reminded motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially during poor weather and in areas frequented by pedestrians.
