At least 50 students in Pototan, Iloilo, were caught carrying knives, machetes, and other contraband during a surprise inspection by police.

The operation was done after receiving information that some students were sneaking prohibited items inside the campus.

In a report by GMA Integrated News' '24 Oras Weekend,' authorities said they will coordinate with the parents to place the students under counseling instead of leaving them with punishment alone.

Police stressed that the inspection was aimed at ensuring safety and preventing possible violence in schools.

The Schools Division of Iloilo welcomed the operation and emphasized that visible police presence can add security in schools.

Officials also pointed out that cooperation among teachers, parents, and police is needed to guide students away from dangerous behavior.

Investigators are now checking how the contraband entered the school and why the students carried them.

Authorities reminded the public that weapons and other harmful objects have no place in schools, as these could put the lives of young people at risk.

Community leaders are expected to meet with school officials in the coming days to discuss stronger safety measures and better monitoring of students.

Police assured that more inspections may be carried out in other schools if necessary.

Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
