Two family members were killed in a police buy-bust operation in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, after authorities said the suspects resisted arrest and opened fire.

According to a report from GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on Thursday, the suspects—identified as a father and one of his sons—allegedly fired shots after realizing that they were transacting with undercover police officers in an illegal drug deal. Police returned fire, which led to the deaths of the two.

Law enforcers confirmed that an 18-year-old son of the slain suspect was arrested during the operation, while another son managed to escape. Authorities said the family was considered a “high value target” in the local illegal drug trade.

Recovered from the operation were an estimated 240 grams of suspected shabu with a street value of more than ₱1.6 million, along with two firearms and several magazines. The confiscated drugs and weapons have been placed under police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police added that the arrested son will face formal complaints for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for the son who fled during the encounter.

Authorities stressed that the buy-bust operation was part of their continued campaign against illegal drugs in the region, noting that the recovery of large quantities of shabu and firearms underscores the extent of the suspects’ involvement.

In other news, a 50-year-old man, identified as Anthony Hechanova, was found lifeless inside an abandoned house in Barangay Talanghauan, Cabatuan, Iloilo. According to the Cabatuan Fire Station, the house, reportedly owned by Jonel Dusalem, sustained an estimated ₱7,500 in damage. Hechanova's body was discovered inside after firefighters put out the fire and began clearing operations. A relative helped identify the victim, and his family stated that he had been suffering from a long-term illness. This led to the possibility that he may have intentionally set himself on fire, prompting the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to request the help of the Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) to further investigate.
