Negros Occidental 3rd district Rep. Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez has issued a public warning after discovering a fake Instagram account using his name and likeness.

The actor-turned-politician took to his official Instagram Stories to share a screenshot of the fraudulent profile, urging his followers and the general public to be cautious.

The impersonating account carries the handle @javibenitezzz1, and according to Benitez, it is not connected to him in any way.

In the on-screen caption accompanying the shared screenshot, he wrote: “FAKE ACCOUNT!!”

“Beware!” he likewise urged the public.

“Thank you to those who reached out to verify!” he added, expressing gratitude to those who reached out to confirm the account’s authenticity, showing the collaborative effort between public figures and followers in maintaining a safe online environment.

Social media impersonation has become an ongoing concern for public figures, especially politicians and celebrities, as scammers often use these accounts to mislead followers, spread false information, or even commit fraud. By posting the warning, Benitez aimed to ensure that his supporters and constituents are aware and can avoid potential scams or misinformation.

Javier Miguel 'Javi' Lopez Benitez, born on October 8, 1994, in Quezon City, Philippines, is a Filipino actor and politician. He is the son of politician and businessman Albee Benitez and Dominique 'Nikki' Lopez-Benitez. He entered the entertainment industry in 2019 as a member of Star Magic Circle, the talent management arm of ABS-CBN. He appeared in television programs such as Walang Hanggang Paalam and Game Changer. In 2022, Javi transitioned to politics and was elected as the youngest mayor of Victorias City in Negros Occidental at the age of 27.

His message, while celebrating strong and empowered women, also carried a sharp remark that has fueled much speculation online. In his Instagram story, Javi greeted women on International Women's Day but added an exception to his now-viral cryptic online post. "Happy International Women's Day to all strong and empowered women... except sa mga mahilig manira ng pamilya. Hindi yan empowerment. Respect real queens," he expressed.

Last year, Sue Ramirez and Javi Benitez have been confirmed to have broken up. In November 2024, Javi took to his Facebook page to address the breakup. According to him, four months have already passed since they went their separate ways. He then wished nothing but the best for the actress, and said he hopes she finds the love she deserves.
