Noise barrage held by PDLs in Negros Occidental jail, call for warden’s removal

Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Negros Occidental District Jail Male Dormitory in Barangay Tabunan, Bago City, staged a noise barrage on Thursday morning, August 28, to protest what they described as poor treatment from their jail warden.

According to reports, the PDLs gathered on the rooftop of the facility carrying placards, megaphones, and other materials to call for the removal of their jail warden.

A leader of the protesting group said, “Sumugod sang nagsaylo ang amo nga jail warden sa amo nga presohan, ginaalegar nga nagmahal na ang presyo sang mga balaklon sa sulod.”

He also alleged that the warden had been “ginabuhinan man sini ang kwarta nga ginahatag sang pamilya sang PDL.”

Earlier, human rights advocacy group Kapatid Negros released a statement condemning alleged violations inside the district jail.

They claimed the PDLs had been victims of “harassment, intimidation, non-compliance with agreements, unjust isolation kag iban pa nga mga iregularidad.”

In response, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)–Negros Island Region issued its own press release addressing the concerns raised by Kapatid Negros.

The agency urged the jail warden of the Negros Occidental District Jail to issue a statement regarding the incident.

Authorities assured that they are already investigating the complaints lodged by the PDLs.

The outcome of the inquiry is expected to determine whether administrative actions will be taken against the jail official.

Still in other news, the parents of two of the students injured by falling debris in Quezon City have issued a statement detailing their sons' conditions and calling for accountability. One son is in critical condition and requires surgery, while the other sustained injuries and is traumatized. The families are requesting an expedited investigation and plan to pursue legal remedies against those deemed negligent. The parents expressed gratitude for the support received and acknowledged the assistance of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and other local officials.
