A 53-year-old man was arrested in Baras, Rizal, under a warrant of arrest for the alleged killing of his wife in 2009.
Police Major Robert Papa, chief of Baras Police, said the suspect had been hiding for almost 16 years and was classified as a most wanted person at the regional level.
The crime reportedly happened inside the couple’s home in Sitio Rizza, Barangay Pinugay, Baras.
Based on the police investigation, jealousy was the motive behind the killing.

The couple argued, and the suspect allegedly strangled his wife to death.
Authorities added that before fleeing, the suspect tried to make it appear that his wife died by suicide.
He allegedly hanged her from a tree using ta ie wire to cover up the crime.
Police said the suspect initially went into hiding in Bicol before returning to Baras recently, which led to his arrest.
He is now being held at the custodial facility of Baras Municipal Police Station.
The accused, however, strongly denied the allegations, saying he did not kill anyone and that the matter should be settled in court.

The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
